Dr. Chilenye Nwapi

Senior Fellow | Oil and Gas Law and Policy

 

Dr. Chilenye Nwapi is the Senior Fellow (Oil and Gas Law and Policy) at the OGEES Institute. In this position, he provides leadership for the research and training programs of the Institute in the areas of oil and gas law and policy.

 

Dr. Nwapi holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia (UBC), and a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Calgary, both in Canada. At the UBC, he was a Liu Scholar for Global Issues. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the Imo State University, Owerri, Nigeria as well as a Baccalaureate in Law (BL) from the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus. In addition to his position as Senior Fellow at OGEES, he is also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Canadian Institute of Resources Law, Calgary, Canada and teaches law at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. He has previously taught at the University of British Columbia, Canada; and has been a Visiting Professional at the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands where he worked with Judge Daniel Nsereko.

 

Dr. Nwapi has published widely in the areas of environmental law, oil and gas law, public and private international law, and legal aspects of corporate social responsibility. He has held numerous scholarships, including the Eyes High Postdoctoral Fellowship (of the University of Calgary), the Law Foundation of British Columbia Scholarship and the Alberta Law Foundation Graduate Scholarship.
