Barbara von Gayling-Westphal, MA (Berlin)
Associate Research Fellow| Oil and Gas Law and Policy
Barbara von Gayling-Westphal is an Associate Research Fellow (Oil and Gas Law and Policy) at the OGEES Institute. At OGEES, she conducts research on cross-border pipeline projects and their corresponding agreements, with particular focus on pipeline projects in Westafrica, the Middle East and Southeast Europe.
Miss von Gayling-Westphal is currenty a PhD researcher in public international law at the University of Konstanz. For her PhD project she holds a full scholarship by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. She is affiliated with the Energy Charter Secretariat (ECS) in Brussels and also a member of the Legal Advisory Task Force, advising the ECS on an updated version of its model agreements for cross-border pipeline and electricity projects. A comprehensive report on cross-border pipeline agreements, which she wrote during a stay at the ECS in 2014, will be published in late 2015.She obtained her law degree (Erstes Juristisches Staatsexamen) in Berlin, Germany, in 2012, after having studied in Munich, Germany, and London, Great Britain.
Before working for Germany’s leading energy law firm, Becker Büttner Held, as a research assistant in 2012, she gained experience in advising EU and World Bank funded projects for various public beneficiaries in Eastern Europe and the Middle East as a student research assistant in 2010 and 2011 and published several articles on that matter.
